TFT monitor fault

Not quite sure whether this would be an appropriate group to post this,
please feel free to offer anything more suitable if you know of any groups.

I have a Compaq TFT500 monitor which has a screen fault in that the display
seems to have a dull greenish tint to it when compared to a known working
display on a laptop. I was told this was just an optical illusion and was
initially diagnosed as a worn out tube but I think this is incorrect as the
on screen display text is crisp and pure white as it should be.

Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what might be the problem and what a
suitable fix would be?

TIA
Paul

That does not seem like a fault with the monitor. When did it begin
giving you the green tint? Have you unplugged the signal cable from
the video adapter and re-plugged it back in?

Are any pins bent in the monitor signal connector?

Reason I ask is when you connect a monochrome VGA monitor, there are
two pins that are shorted (or maybe not, can't remember which way
round) and this tells the video adapter that it's a mono-monitor
attached and as such the entire video signal is sent down the green
channel. In this case the reg and blue channels are not used.

This happened to me recently, but it was my fault. I switched to
another computer on the KVM while it was booting up and the result was
a green picture on my monitor.

Just something to check and consider . . .

Hi, thanks for your comments. I'm beginning to go towards the possibility
that it's an electronics fault. As I bought this off someone in this
condition who says they didn't check it before sending out (they've offered
me a refund but I'm after a fix if it's at a reasonable cost) I'm not sure
how long it's been used and when it started. The thing is, although the
windows desktop seems to be off-clour towards the green somewhat, the OSD is
absolutely spot on in its colours and hence I don't know what to make of it.

Thanks,
Paul
