Text will not delete but I can write over it

Ok so I have this document that I use pretty much everyday to keep track of
some things. I also color code the text now for example I have the word
"typed" and it is in purple (that probably doesn't matter, just want to to
have an idea of what I am doing). Now I have "mailed" it out so i want to
change my purple "typed" to "Typed/Mailed". I go to chage it and the purple
"typed" is still in the background, like it is burnt into the document and I
can type over it. So i closed the document to see if it was just a glitch
and well now i cannot even highlight it, it is seriously liek burnt onto the
document.

I have NEVER seen this before...please help if you can!

Well thanks guys but i figured it out (it was in a table i was having trouble
and i just fiddled with the properties)
