Text vs. Pictures

I'd been told (or I read) that e-mail messages with pictures in them could
carry malware. Therefore, I replaced the pictures with textual equivalents.
Now my e-mail contains too many links. I forgot how I made the change so
perhaps you can help?

How would the textual equivalents be changed to pictures?

Thank you,
