text to Date/time

Hi,

I have an excel spreadsheet that we use an Access macro
(TransferSpreadsheet) to import into a table in Access. When the data is
imported it is as text. I would like to change the date column from text
(04/17/2007 0:00) to a date format.
Is there an Access query, perhaps an update query that would change the data
type of the of the date column to a short date? I tried numerous things but
couldn't come up with the correct expression.

Would it be possible to format the date in Excel as a Number field just for
the import? I believe you could then import it into a Date field
