As SCR is spyware of the nastiest kind
(http://www.soft-central.net/scr.php) I need another text search/replace
program. I've looked at the PW site and the first program (Info-rapid)
is huge for just the one task, while the second (ReplaceEm) is not at
all intuitive.
All the program has to do is do a search/replace in one file that could
be as large as 200meg. No multiple files, no complex strings.
Anyone know of anything ?

Thanks,
P.

GSAR, General Search and Replace is a small, simple console program
that will do what you describe.

Thanks all - I'll take a look at GSAR in particular tomorrow.
The problem isn't the actual operation, it's the size of the text file.
Opening a 200meg text file and still having a functional machine is
beyond a lot of computers - SCR (and GSAR by first look) does not need
you to actually open the file to do it's job. Apologies for not being
clearer.

With my PIII 733MHz, 1GB SDRAM, 7200RPM 8MB cache hard disk and during
other "normal" PC usage, GSAR managed to convert all "a"'s to "b" on a
121MB zip file in under ten seconds (468374 occurrences).

Should do the job pretty quickly!
