Text not showing apostrophe

Using Excel 2000 with XP

In my worksheet, when I use to enter text in a cell the edit line showed
this prefixed with an apostrophe, however this has stopped and when
importing data, I can't easily identify whether an entry is a numeric or
text.

Any ideas whey this might have stopped working. Thanks Rob
 
Sorted, turned on Transition Navigation Keys under Tools, Options,
Transitions. Rob
