Text Import Problem

Tom C

Hi,

I've been importing text files through ACCESS 97, 2000, 2004, and 2007 for
many years. I just got a call from a client that said he was having problems
importing a text delimited text file using 2007. Once he selects the text
file, and tries to append it into an existing table he just gets a blue
screen after clicking on the OK button. Ha anyone had this problem before?

Thanks for any help you can offer,
Tom C

I, too, am having trouble importing text files using Access 2007 and did not
have this trouble with Access 2003. When I try to append a text file to a
table where the automatically defined data types are different than the
pre-existing table, I get a large amount of import errors. I have to import
the text data into a new table, correct the table definitions, then rename
the new table to the desired table name (over-writes the existing table).
I'm going to try setting up table specifications and use a TransferText macro
which may solve the problem. It sure was easier the other way, though, for
some situations.

These are two different problems suggest Sharon post a new thread as your
problem is with your data trying to be inserted into a field which fails due
to type data, length or field, indexes and on and on. Tom C seems to have a
problem with one client having (and I'm making educated guess) a damaged
datafile. Tom, run the standard repair steps on the client having the
problems. See

Thanks, Pete. Sorry for the confusion. I'll post my question in another
thread.
