Mike

I have a TS server that I cannot connect to via rdp. I get 2 error in the
event log on every attempt.
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: TermService
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1004
Date: 2/20/2004
Time: 1:13:53 PM
User: N/A
Computer: DELL4300
Description:
The terminal server cannot issue a client license.

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: TermService
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1010
Date: 2/20/2004
Time: 12:59:21 PM
User: N/A
Computer: DELL4300
Description:
The terminal services could not locate a license server. Confirm that all
license servers on the network are registered in WINS\DNS, accepting network
requests, and the Terminal Services Licensing Service is running.

When I go to TS licensing it searches for a lisence server and gives me
popup error: No License server is available in the current domain.

So I go to Action--> Connect, and enter the TS license server name, and I
shows all the licenses. But I still cannot connect via rdp even if I find
the TS license server manually. Can anyone help me resolve this problem?

LS is NT 4.0
This TS server is w2k
I tried the instructions in Microsoft KB, but it didn't seem to work. It
still doesn't fiknd the LS automatically.

No, that won't work. The LS must be running on a W2K box.
If the W2K TS is a member server in a NT 4.0 domain (as in your
situation), the LS does *not* have to run on a DC. Just install
the LS on the TS or any other mener W2K server, and use the
registry setting to point the TS to it.

From:
232520 - Description of Terminal Services License Server Discovery
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=232520

Windows NT 4.0 Domain

The License Server must be running on a Windows 2000 member server
and all domain controllers must be running Windows NT 4.0.
The Terminal Services-based computer issues broadcasts on a
mailslot. All Terminal Service Licensing Servers that receive the
broadcast respond. The Terminal Services-based computer selects
one of the Licensing Servers at random.

Most of the users can connect to the terminal server. But any new computers
cannot get a license. All computers used to be able to connect. Now those
same computers still can connect but no new computers can.

Yes, that's exactly what you would expect when the TS cannot find the
LS. The only machines that can still connect are those that still
have a valid temporay license. They will soon be refused as well.

Have you made the changes I posted in my previous post (see below).
Those will fix the problem.
