I have installed the many updates to Windows XP. In my
windows folder, there are many folders with the
name "$NtUninstallQNNNNNN$" where N equals an integer. Do
these folders have to be retained. I cannot imagine that
I would want to uninstall one of MS's update after it has
proven to function correctly. I really dislike having
MS "junk" files on my computer.

Greetings --

First, there have been about 3 or 4 cases with bad updates making it
nesscary to uninstall them in order to run Windows correctly.

If you wish to safely remove the "uninstall files" for the
Hotfixes (i.e. $NtUninstallQxxxxxx$ files shown in Windows Explorer)
and cleanup your Add/Remove Programs list, visit MS-MVP Doug Knox's
excellent website for instructions.

I'm not sure... but it sounds you would like "Tuneup
utilities", among other things it removes useless windows
files from your computer. I use it alot and have grown to
love it.

Hi,

No, they do not need to be retained. They are uninstall files for each
"hotfix", or WindowsUpdate you've installed. If you do not need to uninstall
any one particular update, simply delete the $NtUninstallQnnnnnn$ folder.
Then go to add & remove in the Control Panel and select the hotfic for
removal. You will get an error message followed by a prompt to remove it
from the listings.
