temp file needed

I am brand new to XP and I was trying to download my
softwre for my printer. HP Printer\Scanner\Copier 380. I
had to use a different driver because HP does not upgrade
this. What I am having trouble with is trying to download
software from HP. I keep getting this messge.

"16 bit Windows Subsystem
C:\DOCUME~1\Loretta|LOCALS~1\temp\
A temporary file needed for intialization could not be
created or could not be written to. Make sure that the
directory path exists, and disk space is available.
Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

Could someone help me here and tell me how to make a file
for this if possible.

I thank you ahead of time for your time and patience.

When it asks where you want to download\save the file to
and it will, pick another spot, ie, My Documents,
Desktop, etc. Somewhere you will know, or create and name
another folder in the root of c:\ and save tro that.

This is the software trying to run. It will not open at
all. When I use explore and then run as It always gives
that message.

This is software your are trying to "install" on the
computer for your device? Try to copy the CD or Floppy
your software is on to the hard drive, just create a
folder somewhere and copy the whole CD into it and then
try to run the setup.exe or what ever it is from there.
If that still won,t work, You need to go to HP web site
and download the software for XP\2000 for the device. It
should be there and it will be free.

Hi,
copy files to local drive and install it and after
installing check those files are created on your temp
directory or not ,you can also manually copy those to temp
folder ,remeber the "Local Settings" folder is always
hidden form ,unhide folder and check it.

.

Could the problem be permissions? Sounds like the intall program, for
whatever reason is reporting that it can't find, and also can't create
the temp folder ... not this is the user's normal temp folder.

First of all are are you the administrator of the pc?
then why not create this folder by yourself? and then see what is going on
