%TEMP% environment variable in Windows ME

hey all

i m using Windows ME - i m getting this bizarre error when i try to install
a software - it gives me a message "cannot determine %TEMP% from
environment" - i have tried 1001 different ways to cover up for this thing
but i havent been able to get pass this error message - i have this in
environment tab of msconfig
temp c:\windows\temp
i have tried every way (the way i know) to cover for % sign and subdirectory
etc , but the error remains - can someone pls pls help me with it - thanx a
lot - i mean it "AAA LOTTTT" ...

I've had a lot of trouble with environment variables in Windows ME, too.
This is primarily because Windows ME sucks...majorly.

First, see if TEMP is getting set. Open a DOS window and type "set"
to get a list of environmental variables. See if TEMP is correctly
defined. If it is, then it's a deeper problem or a program bug. If
it's not, there are a couple of things you can try.

put this in your autoexec.bat file
set temp=c:\windows\temp

The problem is that it seems like the autoexec file is not run
every time you boot Windows ME. Some sources say that it's not
supposed to load the autoexec.bat file at all, but at one point,
I tried booting in "safe" mode, and after that, my environmental
variables were set correctly. Once it was set,
it stayed set.

Give it a try. If you get really frustrated, consider
2K or XP. You will be a happier person.
