I recieved a computer that came with the Vista OPS and was replaced with XP
for whatever reason I have no telnet capabilities. When I try to telnet I
recieve an error on the IE7 page stating that the device or protocol is not
on my system. I do have Telnet on the system just no .exe file. Any
suggestions?
Thank you if you can help me.

Hi Denise,

Did you search the hard drive for telnet.exe? Should be in the system32
folder, and your search may include one found in the i386 or a service
pack folder.

Open a command prompt (Start, Run, cmd, click OK) and type path and
press Enter. Is c:\windows\system32 listed?

Open your services (Start, Run, services.msc, click OK) and scroll down
to Telnet. Is the service started? You may have to change it from
Manual to Automatic depending on what you're trying to do.

Telnet in services is only needed if you want people to be able to
telnet INTO your pc.
You need telnet.exe to get out.

Have you tried hitting the start-> run command and typing in telnet
<enter>?
You said that Explorer gave you an error, I've only used telnet from the
command line and not as part of explorer. So I would advise the above
action.

Denise

Denise,

Did you check the other two items? The service isn't for everything,
only for incoming. I need to know the other info also.
