Technical question about re-installing Word 2000 (sorta)

Prior to obtaining decent virus blocking software, I
placed all of my essential programs, and data on my
secondary hard drive, with only Windows and a few non-
essential items on my primary hard drive.

Well, my secondary hard drive burned up.
Yepper!
Complete with a loud pop, smoke, and the beautiful smell
of burning electronics.
I've managed to reload most of my stuff onto the primary
drive, except for Word 2000!
Windows (98SE) insists that it's still on drive D: (which
is now occupied by the cd-rom drive.)
I've tried editing the registry, to remove any vestige of
Word, but Word's install insists it's still in my computer.

Other than wiping the drive, or reloading Windows, is
there any way to get Word 2000 to actually reload?

After trying every thing I could think of...
Using Regedit, MS Config, deleting files, etc.
I decided to try something off the wall.
I borrowed a spare hard drive from a friend...
Installed it into my computer...
THEN!!!!
Word 2000 let me Uninstall Word!
I removed the spare hard drive, and reinstalled it on my
hard drive.
HOW Stupid!
There should've been a way for the program to see if the
location existed, and to just continue uninstalling what
remained of it.
Anyway...
I hope this helps if anyone else runs into this
programming snafu!
