PC is working normally. OS WinXP SP2. Video card is
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128 with DVI and VGA outputs.
Driver is Catalyst 6.9 with .net 2 installed.
Primary monitor is LCD set to 1024x768 at 60 hz.
Secondary monitor is Viewsonic projector model
PJ500 which is an XGA projector capable of 1024x768.
I'm calling the projector a 2nd "monitor".

Symptom:

When the PC is cold started, and the projector is
on, I can see the screen text on both monitors. I
see the WinXP logo on both, but when WinXP starts,
the projector screen blanks and says "no input".
On the primary monitor, I can look at the Catalyst
driver window, and it says "no 2nd monitor".
I can reset the PC, and hit F8 and go into SAFE
MODE, and both monitors display WinXP in Safe
Mode. I can restart out of Safe Mode .. hit F8 ..
and enable VGA mode, but when the WinXP starts,
again the projector blanks and says "no input".
If I replace the projector with another monitor
like an AOC crt, I can clone the primary screen
to the 2nd monitor with no problems in WinXP.
So the VGA port on the 9800 works fine.

It is fixed and working. Hint .. again the problem
was trying to run old with new. Nothing was broke.

Solution: Replace the cable. It was about 4 years
old, and wired to the "old" VGA standard that has
no ID logic. See, you guys fixing all your "broke"
stuff ?? ... a lot of it ain't broke. In this case, I think
the BIOS video driver, and SAFE MODE, use the
old VGA standard. WinXP uses the new to ID the
monitor, and provide it with advanced settings.
I'll bet JAD didn't know this.

I've got another one: same system, up and running,
but when I try to play an mpg, in ANY mpg player,
I get no picture .. just black. Also, no sound.
I have that working now :) How ? Hint: ATI makes
good video cards, but they can't write a #&*&%
to save their asses.
