No, one adapter is quite enough for workstation and there is no NLB service.
You can team NICs if a driver permits but this is not a load balancing but
high availability (fault tolerance).
Intel's Server line of NIC's support teaming for both load balancing and
fail over. Its really a feature of the drivers. They even make special dual
& quad ports on a single card so you don't have to waste multiple PCI slots.
