Hello,

Personally,I found Black Viper's XP Service
Configurations guide a very quick and easy way to close a
whole whack of unnecessary ports.

A simple means of checking which ports are "listening" is
to open a command line (start>run>cmd) type netstat -an
then press enter.(Not sure whether this answers your
question.)

Your computer is pretty good at opening ports by
itself,as and when it needs to.If you want to assign
ports to handle speciffic traffic, the boffins at the-
scream.co.uk offer great advice on those types of thing.

All I do is close them!
