If have a really wierd problem with TCP/IP (I think) -
after weeks of stability running XP Pro, I had a problem
connected to a server and ran ipconfig which took longer
than usual to respond and returned no information -
ipconfig/all returned node type unknown and no
information of ip addressing or mac address or lease
details whatsoever

This is on XP Pro running with all service packs and
updates installed

After trying various things, I uninstalled/removed
service pack 1 and on a reboot, ipconfig was back to
normal and ipconfig/all displayed all data

I have since reinstalled SP1A, and we are back to square
one, with the same problems

Previously the node type was shown as broadcast now it is
back to Unknown, and again, IP addresses and Mac address
have disappeared

Ipconfig/renew returns "The operation failed a sno
adapter is in the state permissible for this operation"

So I am at a loss as to what to do next except that it
seems to have something to do with an element of the SP1A
upgrade (I think)

Looking forward to anyones help with this

Thanks, David

Go to Device Manager and un-install the network adapter that your LAN
connection uses. Reboot and let Windows XP re-install the network
adapter. That will create a new connection in the Network Connections
folder.

If that doesn't solve the problem, try this:

Have tried both your suggestions in the order suggested

Google for lspfix.exe and winsockxpfix.exe. Run both in their default
modes.

Dear Q

Thanks for the tip - downloaded the utilities but
unfortunately they did not help the situation - in fact I
had to go back to a restoe point just prior to applying
them as things seemed to get worse not better - any
further offers of help would be most appreciated
