Tasks are missing from To-Do Bar Outlook 2007

Outlook 2007. In Calendar view, I have the To-Do Bar open. I've check-boxed
Date Navigator, Appointments and Tasks. Date Navigator and Appointments
appear, but in place of Tasks i get message: "The operation failed. An
object could not be found."

Going to the folder view for All Task Items if i select To-Do List, i get
the message: "Cannot display the folder." However, if in the same folder
view for All Task Items, i select Tasks, i am able to see all my tasks.

I have gone to Personal Folders, and in its properties, i have selected
Display Reminders and Tasks from this Folder in the To-Do Bar.

So, even though i'm doing everything recommended in the knowledge base, i
still have the problem.

What have you done that is recommended in the knowledge base?
You could try with a new profile and open your old PST and copy the data
over.

Hi, Bill R,

Here's what I have done that is recommended in the knowledge base:

* Selected/clicked "Tasks" in the To-Do Bar options dialog
* Selected/clicked "Display...Tasks...To-Do Bar...etc." in the Personal
Folders properties dialog

I'm a bit leery about opening a new profile because it seems like opening
another potential can of worms in order to address a relatively simple
problem. My profile is complicated--I have 20 POP email accounts and one
Exchange email account, as well as a huge (3G) pst file, therefore I fear
even more issues when creating a new profile. Do you think that's a
resolution, or is it simply a trouble-shooting technique?

both. It will show if the profile is corrupt and, if so act as a new one.
Creating a new profile won't effect your current one. Just add a POP3
account to it.

Hi, Bill,

In attempting to solve a different Office 2007 problem (horrid performance)
I removed Desktop Search. After rebooting once Search was removed, I found
that the To-Do Bar problems had disappeared along with (some of) the
performance problems.

Strange.

Thanks for all your help, Bill & others on the group.

Here is a caveat for those who want to use the method of creating a
new profile to fix this problem: many of your customizations will be
lost and have to be re-created in the new profile. This cure may be
worse than the problem.

For example, to attempt to fix this problem as recommended, I created
a new profile and then imported my old pst file. This process took 5
hours (pst file is over 3G for me), during which time, my email &
calendar were unavailable to me. Once the import had finished, I
found that my extensive list of categories (over 50, with 14 color
schemes matrixed across the 50 categories), which i assign to all my
contacts and calendar items, had not been imported. I didn't look to
see if my email rules (17) had been imported; I do know that my email
accounts/addresses (24) had not been imported.

Considering the hours it had taken me to customize Outlook, I decided
to abandon the 5+ hours of effort and the n hours of diagnosis already
spent on this current problem and just live with the problem of no
Tasks in the To-Do bar. As a business person, I can't afford to spend
2+ business days of non-productivity diagnosing problems with
productivity tools. This is only my experience and my requirements;
yours may vary. I just want to say to be wary of diagnostic processes
that take many hours and/or work-arounds that require much re-do of
your preferences.

DON'T import he PST. Importing can cause issues. One can open a PST file and
copy data over. Another option (if the PST is safe to use and has no errors
in it) is to create a new profile with a new PST, add the old PST to the
profile and then set the old PST as default.
Rules can be exported and imported via the Options button in Rules and
Alerts. The rules will be there but sometimes they need to be modified to
get them to work.

I did not realize one could open a PST rather than import it. Nor did
I realize that one could point a new profile to an old PST.

Don't feel left out

This problem is wide spread for users of older Outlooks that update to Outlook 2007. I still have not been able to get the tasks, messages and calendar to stay on. They come up, flashes on the Outlook Today, when Outlook 2007 is started for only a second then disappears.
