I was wondering how can I get my task manager to work.. When I click control,
alt, delete a message pops up saying that the Task Manager has been disabled
by the administrator. I went to a page on the microsoft site and found that
related topic.. It gave a solution to go to start then click on run.. I dont
have run on my start menu either.. So im clueless of what i should do and how
to get this back working. If anyone can help me plz do!
 
OK i found that.. and when i click on it.. It still says Task Manager has
been disabled by the administrator.

See if this helps to place the Run command in the Start menu:

If you're using the WINXP Start menu, click on Start then right-click in the
upper border by the Username and select Properties, then click on the
Customize button, then Advanced tab. In the Start menu items field, scroll to
locate Run command and click in the checkbox beside it. Click on OK, then
Apply, then OK.

If you're using the Classic Start menu, click on Start>Settings>Taskbar and
Start menu>Start Menu tab. Click on the Customize button, and in the Advanced
Start menu options field, scroll (if necessary) to locate Display Run and
click in the checkbox beside it. Click on OK, then Apply, then OK.

another question where do i download those files to? And how can i get my
task manager back working?
 
It sounds like you are using your computer in a network environment where
there are group policies preventing you from accessing certain
functionalities.

If you are the administrator of your desktop, you might wanna try renaming 2
keys in the registry (if you don't have access to your run option under start
menu, you can directly launch the editor from Windows\System32\regedt32.exe) :

HKey_Current_User\Software\Policies
HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Policies

You can rename these 2 keys to whatever you'd like (I never delete keys in
the registry in case it affects system stability... renaming them allows you
to rename them back to their original name in case something happens).

In this case, these 2 keys contain all the group policies changes applied by
your domain administrator to your computer (HKLM) or directly to your
username (HKCU). If I remember right, the policy preventing access to the
task manager is one applied directly to your username.

After you rename these 2 keys, the computer might be able to open the task
manager as he won't see the group policy blocking it anymore. Im not sure if
only deleting these keys will actually have any instant impact on the
computer or if you have to wait for some time or even reboot before it has
any effect.

One thing for sure, if the computer is connected to the network, it will
check his domain and update its group policies every 15 minutes or directly
after a reboot or directly after you log on with your username so the task
manager will be blocked again very soon. If your computer isn't connected
anymore to its domain (you brought that computer home from work for exemple),
this might fix the issue for good.

It looks like your computer was well secured. If you don't have access to
edit the registry, there isn't much you can do. The only thing that would
allow you to bypass that security would be to use another usename without
those restrictions.

If you're at work, the only ones able to fix this would most likely be the
domain administrators and they will probably not want to give you access to
the registry/task manager as they blocked it for security reasons.

I am the owner of the computer.. And it just started doing this yesterday or
a couple days ago i cant remember.. Im not seeing those keys in the system32
file.. Im about to give up.. when i click on those things youve told me to
click on it says registry is disabled by the administrator.. when i go to
bring up the task manager it says task manager has been disabled by the
administrator. So i dont know whats went wrong or what has happened
 
Download them to Desktop.

We're working on getting your Task Manager back running.....chances are, a
malware infection has disabled not only Task Manager, but Run command and
Regedit, and you'll need access to Regedit in order to re-enable Task Manager
and Run command.

One other thing you could try is to create a new user on your computer and
log on your computer using that new user.

You can either do that by going in your start menu, control panel, user
accounts. A window will open up with options to create a new user. Create
that user as an administrator then reboot and try logging in the computer
with that account and see if you have access to registry and task manager.

Thank You all for your help! I've got it back going from the fixes youve
posted to me.. Everything is back working.. Task Manager now comes up and the
run button is on my start menu now. Thank You all so much!

If I were you, I'd now update my virus scanner with the latest definition
files and run a thorough scan.

Run "search" "task manager" when found right click on it and click on
Click to expand...
"pin to start menu."
Then double click on it any time you need it.
