Taskbar vanishes after each scheduled scan completes

I am running Windows XP SP2 Home Edition. MS Anti-Spyware Beta is scheduled
to run nightly at 2:00AM. Once the Scan Results window appears (I believe
this problem only occurs when all the results are "0", but I'm not 100% sure
of that), my taskbar either vanishes completely leaving nothing but a black
area at the bottom of the screen or becomes totally inoperative (all
toolbars, start button, and system tray icons cease to function).
Control-Escape or Windows key do not bring up the Start Menu either. Alt-Tab
still works, but eventually I have to restart the system using the Task
Manager which restores the taskbar functionality. This is becoming a real
hassle because a restart takes me almost 5 minutes on my 2.8 ghz P4 machine!
If I happen to be up and abort the scan before it completes the taskbar seems
to be OK. Is there a fix for this? Am I the only one with this problem?

Do you know of a way to restart the taskbar without doing a full
shutdown/restart? Has anyone else reported this kind of behavior?

Well, in Windows Task Manager, what you could do is, click Shutdown > Switch
User or if Switch User is not enabled, click Log off instead, wait about 2
mins then log back into your account. I suspect its because of a lack
resources in terms of RAM usage by MSAS why your system kind of froze that
why its giving problems redrawing the desktop.
