Taskbar notifications are driving me nuts

I'm looking for a way to disable/manage messages from applications in
the taskbar notifications area. I'm talking about messages like:

"Wireless Network is Now Connected to..."
"Windows has downloaded an upgrade..."

It wouldn't bother me so much if I could set a timer for them to go away
automatically or if I could install and app to catch the messages into a
log file for later review, instead I have to stop and click the "Go the
F... Away" button. I'm pretty severely ADHD and I'm forever getting off
task to go look at why my wireless network is bouncing up and down.

Any thoughts on how to eliminate some or all of these distractions?

Installing Windows Updates or going to Windows Updates and checking "HIDE" on
the updates you want to see. To do that you'll need to open the Update and
checking the box at the bottom. And at any time you want an Update back... on
the Left hand side select Restore hidden updates.

I don't know anything on Wireless Network.

Here are a couple of options that you might want to try.

1. Download and install TweakUI from Microsoft. TweakUI is
available here.

Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

Direct Download of TweakUI
http://download.microsoft.com/downl...a6-b352-839afb2a2679/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Once the program is installed, go to Start -> All Programs ->
Powertoys for Windows XP -> TweakUI.
In TweakUI, click on Taskbar and Start Menu.
In the right hand pane, remove the check mark from the box next
to "Enable balloon tips".
Click OK.

2. Follow the directions in this Microsoft article.

3. Run the script on line 11, left hand column from this web
site.
