Taskbar not working on Vista

For some reason I am unable to select any of the icons in the taskbar and
cannot maximise any windows that have been minimised. When I attempt either
of these the computer beeps. The only thing that works is the start menu.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

It has happened on all abut one occassion everytime I have used my computer
for the last three weeks or so. Restarting makes no difference. I don't know
why on that one occassion the taskbar worked.

Hello all,
I have this reoccurring mess on the taskbar that can only be resolved by
going to the task manager and ending the explorer.exe process and then
calling it again.
For no reason, the clock disappears, the windows bars on the taskbar move
right to left, and the quick launch moves all the way behind the start logo.
as I move through the bar things look more messed up and clicking one icon
opens the other...
This happens with no reason, the first time was when I enabled the windows
media player toolbar and then I stopped doing it, again it happened again...
it happens twice or three times daily even after a fresh system restart.

Vista version is: Business
