I am frequently having the same disturbing problem!!! The menus of the
taskbar pop open a number of times and then Internet Explorer shuts down. I
have scanned with AdAware, Spybot and EZ Trust Antivirus. Nothing shows up.
Please help with this. IT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!

Too oblique.
"menus of the taskbar"???
Do you mean system tray icons?
Be specific with what "pops" open.
Detail what is seen and what happens.

Sorry for being "too oblique". The window when you write click the taskbar continually opens numerous times at once and the start menu opens the same way.
It happens when connected to internet and not connected. When connected
whatever it is that is causing this also closes down internet explorer

Temprary Fix:
GoTo: Start/Run
Type "msconfig"
In the dialog box that appears, click the "Startup" tab
Click on "Disable All"
Click "Apply" button followed by "OK"
Close all windows
REBOOT
Then post back all the other problems you are having.
Can you associate the problem with any changes you
may have made?
When did the problem start?
Have you tried system restore?

You may need to scan some more.
This kind of "demonic possession" is pretty typical of a computer parasite
of some sort.

Thanks for the tip. I did all you mentioned. Haven't seen this problem
happen yet. I have done a system restore to way before I recognized this
problem. Didn't seem to work. I haven't changed or added anything. I'm
perplexed. Why does Internet Explorer shut down when this happens?

I agree, I suspect it is indeed some form of malware that either
failed to "infect" as intended, or "debris" was left behind by her
scans? As we all know if spyware is in, others will be there too!

OK, so we have ascertained it is indeed in the Start up folder.
Your scan with spyware removal tools failed to fully remove it.
You are going to have to identify all listed in the start up folder
and once you have located spyware, manually remove it.

I'd be happy to do so -- what else can I scan with to find this -- nothing
coming up with AdAware, Spybot, EZtrust Antivirus. Any suggestions? Oh, by
the way, the msconfig thing didn't work!!

I am agreeing with both of you -- HOW DO I FIX THIS??? I have scanned yet
again with sysclean.com. I thought I was clean for a little while then it
happened again!!YIKES!!

These links are from Shenen Stanley, who posts a lot here.
I would use the free ones in the order they are presented.
If often takes scanning with 4 programs to get all the malware off your
computer.
PS: You do have a firewall, don't you?

Thanks for all the advice. It all sounded so logical, however, nothing
worked -- only because nothing was wrong. I went to Walmart and bought a new
mouse and the problem is solved. Thanks for all the time and effort. Have a
great day.

Glad to find you've solved your problem. You may find that if you open up
your mouse and clean it, there will be a buildup of dust that you can remove
easily and have a spare working mouse that way.
