Help, My taskbar is double the height than normal. I
dropped it down off the screen, and when I went to bring
it back up...it doubled in height. I've tried everything
to fix it to no avail. Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks, Frustrated Lou

Is it double height as in two lines or are all icons twice as large? If you
see two lines then first you need to unlock the Taskbar (right click on
empty area of the Taskbar and select the appropriate line from the menu
shown) and then resize.

Lou,

Are there two rows of icons? What is in the top row?

Thanks Pavil, The taskbar is unlocked so how do you resize it? One thing, the time,Day and date are all showing and they are stacked. Normally only the time shows.

Just like you would resize any open folder, place your cursor on top of the
taskbar and when it changes to up-down arrow, right click and drag the top
line to the desired position. Once you finished, do right click again on the
empty portion of this taskbar and select the Lock the Taskbar. This way it
will not change by accidental resize.
In addition, while you have it in unlocked mode, you could also move the
entire taskbar around the screen if you desire so.

To Pavel: I tried to resize but it wont let me. I can only hide it off the screen and when I bring it back up, it goes back to double height. The icons on the right side are stacked vertically 2 and 3 high, same size as originals. 1st line is time, 2nd line is day, third line is date. I never saw day or date before. On the left side of the taskbar, Icons are on one line then open programs such as ( windows xp newsgro...) is on the second line. It used to be to the right of the icons.

What may have happened is that the faint hatched 'handle' right of the
Quick launch has got dragged so far right that it has dropped to a lower
level. Look for it under the right of the Start button, and if it is
there, drag it up and right into place

I was having the same problem with my Windows XP Taskbar and your
answer was just the trick. Do make sure that the taskbar is unlocked
so that you can see those little handles. Thanks for your help.

Now, how do I get that little arrow handle back on the notification
area so that it is not so big?

Lou,

Your problem is that you have moved your Quick Launch toolbar from its
original location (left or right of the Taskbar?) to on top of the
Taskbar. The Quick Launch toolbar can be placed in any of four
positions relative to the Taskbar (above, right, below, or left), plus
it can be moved off the Taskbar and docked on another screen edge.

Moving the QL Toolbar is done by grasping the toolbar handle (a broken
vertical line just to the right of the Start button), and moving it.
Figuring out exactly how to move the handle is trippy, you have to
play with it a while.

Once you get the QL Toolbar repositioned, you can resize it by
adjusting the Taskbar handle left or right. Then resize the Taskbar
vertically by grasping its upper edge and moving up or down.

Cheers,

Chuck

moving the quick launch bar doesn't seem to do what he is describing. it
sounds like he somehow stretched the task bar to double its normal height
and locked it there. try right clicking on the bar, select properties, make
sure 'lock the taskbar' is not checked. then apply and exit from it. you
should be able to see a difference in the top edge of the task bar when it
is locked and unlocked. when its unlocked you should be able to grab the
top edge and stretch it taller or shorter.

another odd possibility is that somehow you got switched to supersize
icons... are the icons in the task bar and systray normal size??
