Taskbar and QuickLaunch reset

I had Windows 2000 Pro on a PC, after reboot, the quicklaunch would disappear
and the taskbar would go back to the default "single" level. This behavior
has continued even after an upgrade to Windows XP Pro. Is there a registry
fix?
