Purchased a new laptop, Windows Media Edition. Noticed that there is a
scheduled task that runs every 4 hours (shown below).
Anyone know what it is, and is it necessary for it to run at all. Googled
for any answer, and several pages came up taking me to HiJackthis pages, as
well as several other security risk web sites. I am thinking that it has
something to do with my HP printer, but am wondering why it has to be in a
scheduled task. AdAware, SpyBot, CWShredder, AboutBuster, and SpywareBlaster
come up clean as far as problems on the computer.

C:\Program
Files\HP\{AAC4FC36-8F89-4587-8DD3-EBC57C83374D}\pexpress\hphped06.exe

Thanks.

Looks like some sort of malware.

Hewlett-Packard is listed in Program Files, not HP. I.e. C:\Program
Files\Hewlett-Packard

Navigate to ...
C:\Program Files\HP\{AAC4FC36-8F89-4587-8DD3-EBC57C83374D}\pexpress

Right click hphped06.exe | Properties | Version tab

Hint. Company should show: Hewlett-Packard Company

There should be a description on both General and Version tabs.

This info is part of the file and not all files have real good info.
Especially if it is spyware or a virus. Or whoever put it together was lazy
or secretive.

On the Version tab.

Click a category on the left to display the information on the right.

Other version information
Item Name:
Company
File Version
Internal Name
Language
Original File Name
Product Name
Product Version

Sometimes, if someone was really industrious, there is info under the
Summary tab also.

16-bit programs do not have a Version tab.

Thanks Wesley, actually pinned it down. It is HP Photosmart
320,370,7400,8100,8400 Series Printer Software v6.0.
It is the software that my 8100 series HP printer installed. And it is
really under C:\Program Files\HP. There are several folders under the HP
folder. Me thinks that I will put a stop to the scheduled tasks part of it,
and see what happens. Also, there is a Hewlett-Packard folder just above the
HP as well. Anyway looks like it is part of my installed printer software.
Properties doesn't show a company name or much info, but got to reading some
txt files, and ran it down that way. Thanks for the tips.
