Task Scheduler Service.

I am running Windows XP Home Edition. I have set the Task Scheduler to
Defragment daily at 9:00 AM, 4:00 PM and 5:20 PM. I make sure the computer
is turned on, but no matter what the time setting is the Defragment never
takes place.

I used "HOW TO: Troubleshoot Scheduled Tasks in Windows XP" and followed the
"To check the settings for the service:" but still the Defragment never took
place.

I am not technically trained on software problems, troubleshooting, etc.
Therefore, I need step-by-step instructions on how to solve this problem. I
am a senior citizen who will appreciate any help I can get. Thank you in
advance!

i really don't know why your computer is not
defragmenting when it is supposed to but that really
doesn't matter. you do NOT need to defragement your
computer that much. if anyone told you that you do need
to do it that much they were either lying or they no
nothing about computers. even the people who use they're
computers all the time will only defrag their computers
only once every other month (if that). go to you're task
manager and delete all those scheduled defragmentations.
if you are worried that you're computer wont run fast
enough without defragmenting it alot (wich is rarely the
case) you can manually defragment it about once a month
on your own by going into "my computer" right clicking
on properties, going to the tools tab at the top, and
clicking defragment now, then when the new window opens,
click on defragment. i would not even do this opperation
this often unless i was inputing tons and tons of
information into your computer daily, or installing many
new programs.
