Task Scheduler Service Won't Start

I just recently applied Windows 2000 SP4 to all my
servers. After the patch was applied I could no longer
start the Task Scheduler Service on my 2 Citrix servers.
When attempting to start the service I get the following
error: "Could not start the Task Scheduler Service on
Local Computer. Error 2148073504: An internal error
occurred." I've searched everywhere I can think of to
find any tips on resolving this issue. I found very
little information. The technical bulletins I could
locate only offered 2 resolution steps - 1.) Make sure the
service is using the Local System account and 2.) Make
sure the file attributes on the Task Scheduler log file
(SchedLgU.Txt) are correct. I've checked out both of
these items. I've also searched through the listing of
Post-SP4 hotfixes and there doesn't seem to be anything
that addresses this issue.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, have you
been able to find a fix?

I know this is the article you looked at:

223170 Task Scheduler Service Must Be Started with System Account
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=223170

Are you able to execute the job outside of task scheduler? Seems to be a
permissions issue.

Daniel,

Thank you for your reply. Yes you are right - the KB
article you mentioned is one of several that I have
reviewed.

I do not currently have a job that is dependant on the
Task Scheduler. My only concern is that the Task
Scheduler Service will not start. This service was
working fine prior to applying SP4. I reviewed all the
post-SP4 hotfixes and can not find one that addresses this
specific failure.

I would certainly welcome and additional sugguestions.

Thanks,

Dave

yes i have encountered the same problem after installing
sp4....and im sure microsoft support in india knows about
it by now...why we have not heard or seen a posting in
the knowledge base is puzzling to say the least.
