Task Scheduler Catastrophic Failure

Time and time again, while I am in the Task Scheduler, I get a Stop error
declaring "Catastrophic failure (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8000FFFF
(E_UNEXPECTED))", followed by "Task Scheduler service is not available.
Task Scheduler will attempt to reconnect to it." Can anyone decode this and
tell me what I need to do to rectify this situation?
