Task Manager is supposed to open in a window with tabs at the top for
'applications', 'processes' etc. and a menu for 'File, Open', etc. above the
tabs. For some reason when I open Task Manager all I get in the window is a
list of processes....nothing else. Where has the window with all the
info/choices gone? Anyone know?

If sounds as if you have Task Manager running in "Tiny
footprint mode".Double click the border to restore it to its
original appearance.

Why is part of my Task Manager gone?

You're running in what's called "Small Footprint Mode." To change back and
forth from this mode to regular mode, just double-click on the border of the
window.
