When opening task mananger and selecting Processes.....is it normal to see
the same process appear several times in this long list that exists for my
computer. I see iexplore.exe on several lines amongst some others.

Each Internet Explorer window runs its own process in task manager. It is
normal.

If you have launched a program several times, so you have multiple tabs
for it on the task bar, each is a separate process. And it is possible
to set up IE (iexplore) so that it launches child windows as separate
processes too. The other main one is probably svchost - several
instances of that are normal, it having been launched to support
different groups of system services at different times during startup
