Task manager problem

For some reason, when I call up the windows task manager and try to use "end
process", it says "unable to terminate process. The operation could not be
completed.Access denied" on all of the processes running. I have always been
able to do this in the past ... this just started today. Nothing has been
changed or modified that I know of. I can run services.msc and stop or start
any of the services without restriction. What's happened, and how do I get
it corrected?
Thanx,

What does a scan with a current antivirus program (meaning a version not
earlier than 2003 and using updated virus definitions) show?

I've run two current virus checkers, plus four spyware/adware cleaners, and
everything is clean!

Without knowing what is running in the background, there is no way for
me to guess what is wrong with your computer. Start your
troubleshooting by doing a clean boot and then add one thing at a time
to find the problem.

I'll try posting this again ... earlier response did not post for some
reason. What's running in the background is nothing .... nothing in systray
.... only 17 processes(in TM) that are fairly necessary. That has nothing to
do with the problem. The point is that I'm denied access to stop a service
in the TM whereas I always could before!( yes,I'm aware that there are some
services that can't be stopped!) I can run the services console and do
whatever without restriction, and I am the only user of this machine.
Obviously something has changed that I don't know about, and I can't find
out how to correct it.

I am having the same problem and it started recently. Some tasks (such as printer, spoolsv.exe) states a SYSTEM user name now, rather than my original user name ( I am also the only user of my computer) I have tried the fixes listed on here and still have the same issue. It isn't causing a great deal of concern, but trying to end tasks this way does not work anymore. What is the deal??
