Task Manager Not Loaded, not working

When I try to access Task Manager either by ctrl+alt+del or by right clicking
the taskbar at the bottom of the screen and left clicking on Task Manager
nothing happens. I have searched all files and folders and task manager does
not show up. I have a HP Pavilion 510C that was pre-loaded with XP. No longer
under warranty. Any suggestions?

You can extract it from the WinXP CD.

Insert your WinXP CD into the CD Drive
Click Start>Run
type cmd press Enter.

At the Command Prompt mode, type the following command:

Example:-

G: (This assumes the G is the CD Drive)
cd \i386
expand taskmgr.ex_ %SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32\taskmgr.exe

Windows XP was pre-loaded from HP. I do not have a copy of Windows XP that
came with the computer. Also pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL or right clicking in the
task bar and selecting Task Manager does not bring up the Task Manager. A
search of the computer doesn't find Task Manager or tskmgr.

Please read the original message below...Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't work neither
does right clicking on the task bar and selecting task manager. A search of
the machine doesn't show up task manager or tskmgr. A Windows XP cd wasn't
sent with this HP machine, was pre-loaded from the factory.

Have you tried a non-destructive system recovery? Instead of a CD
HP (at least mine) provides a D partition which has all the original
configuration window files. Have never done it, but I was told by a
tech that if you run that recovery, missing or damaged files are
replaced.
