I'm having the same problem with just msconfig. Regedit works,
Taskmanager works, just msconfig. The other problem that I am having
is
that when I open Help and Support and try to search for anything help
locks up. Even if I select set search options it locks up. I have a
feeling they are related. I have Stardock's DesktopX (widgets and
objects) and for some reason I had to unregister and reregister
jscript.dll and vbscript.dll, and I think the problem that I am
having
with msconfig and the help and support problem is related to the
DesktopX issue. Any suggestions? Oh by the way, I spent all day doing
scans for spyware, virus', worms, adware, you name it I scanned with
it
and for it because of that link provided in past threads on this
topic,
Nothing came up...I'm Clean.
Thanks for the suggestion, I appreciate it, but I am the same Calebrot
that is in the thread on Stardock. I was trying something outside of
Stardock because I have gotten nowhere with the Stardock forums. Before
I unregistered and reregistered jscript.dll and vbscript.dll, I was
having many problems, like System Restore coming up as a blank white
window, the inability to do searching either from the address bar or
even within a webpage like Yahoo search. Those problems have been
solved but I was left with Help and Support not functioning and the
msconfig not coming up. Now one thing I noticed last night was that
when I type in msconfig in run, it causes my cursor to go in busy state
for a few seconds and then nothing. But last night I looked into
CTRL-ALT-DEL, windows task manager and msconfig was running as a
process, but just not showing, just tried it right now and it did the
same thing, it's running as a process but just not showing on the
screen. Now in safe mode I can run msconfig properly but not in normal
boot mode. I even tried creating a new user account with admin access
and the same thing occured on the new account, no msconfig. As far as
the Help and Support problem, I have uninstalled the service by Add and
Remove Programs and am going to try to reinstall. It is a customized
Help and Support by HP for my laptop, so maybe the issue will be solved
by that. Again thanks for your suggestion of Stardock forums, but I've
already gone that route.
