Task Manager Blinks

Ok, I've posted as well as read of other people having this same problem.

Everyone points to three different worms that could be causing it. I
purchased and installed Norton's Anti-virus program 2003 and downloaded all
the latest updates before running it and found no virus or worms, but I
still have the disappearing Task Manager problem.

I am running XP Pro on a Pentium 4, 1.7 ghz with 512 ram.

Any other ideas for me?

It has been suggested to go to Kelly's site on line 251, but that line isn't
active and won't open for saving. Does anyone have the info that is stated
there?

Another curious question: since I have the latest and greatest NAV shouldn't
it catch/find any virus/worm that is causing the problem (if that IS the
problem)?

WOW!!!

I tried ALL the suggestions I read on here (virus scans, reg edits, etc.)
but nothing worked and I was getting real frustrated. I discovered the
problem by accident.

1......While in safemode checking something else I decided to try
ctrl+alt+delete just for the heck of it and low and behold Task Manger came
up and stayed with no problem.

2.....I went into msconfig and disabled everything under the startup tab.

3.....When windows ran normally,...so did Task Manager....Hmmmmmm.

4....I went back to msconfig and began checking an item,...saying
ok,...rebooting the computer (a long process), and trying ctrl+alt+delete
each time until I found the one that gave me back the problem of Task
Manager only blinking for a second.

5....I then unchecked that item again and "went for broke" and
checked/re-enabled all the programs/things I wanted to run and rebooted once
more.

6....THAT FIXED IT!

My problem was/is with a program I like using called "Work Station Lock" by
Posum LLC. I will be writing them to tell them of this glitch to be sure.

Just thought everyone who has exhausted all the other fix-it possibilities
(because it really could be a virus, etc.), might try what I have done and
see if a program is interefering with Task Manager.
