i have a notebook that freezes only the task bar and start
menu after booting. the desk top is accessable, and any
program on the desk top works fine ,but the task bar is
frozen. after 5 to 10 minuts the the default start up wave
sound plays, the system tray loads a few more start up
items and evrything is fine until the next reboot. sp1 and
all windows critical updates have installed, virus
software is updated, and any posible spyware has been
removed. i also disabled all start up processes and the
problem stays.

Hi there
If you used an anti-virus and spyware remover, maybe XP is not meant for your notebook (did you upgrade from another operating system?.. if you did.. that may be the problem.. its too slow) lol If you bought the notebook with XP then perhaps try System Restore.. lol go to run by pressing the windows key (in between Alt and Ctrl) and R. In there type C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\ this should bring you to the start menu.. in there.. go to Accesories\System Tools\System Restore.. and try restoring it to an earlier date. If that doesn't work, I'm not 100% sure.. if you have your disks then you can format your comptuer.. but that should be the very last thing you should do.. I hope I helped.. thx for reading
????
