Task Bar Clock

Not if it happens while the system is running. Suspect a dying battery only
if the system loses time while shut down. Otherwise, it's a software
conflict. Antivirus programs, and in particular those from Symantec, are
famous for causing this issue.

What would cause Task Bar Clock to lose time.Time in BIOS
configuration fine.

The default is to sync with a time server once a week.
Run regedit.exe
Find the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\N
tpClient
In the right pane, r-click SpecialPollInterval|Modify|Decimal|change the
value to 1800|OK|Close regedit.
Windows XP will now sync every 30 minutes, when the machine is connected to
the Internet.

S. Heenan,

Before anyone whose clock is running slow rushes out to buy a new
battery, he should first take note of whether he is losing time
while the computer is running or while it's powered off. If it's
while powered off, the problem *is* very likely the battery. But
if it's while running, it can *not* be the battery.

If the clock loses time while running, try this:

Open a command prompt window (Start | Run | cmd) and enter the
following commands:

net stop w32time
w32tm /unregister
w32tm /register
net start w32time

Never suspected the battery as BIOS bootup was working fine. Since I have
installed a retail copy of WINXP when it came available never had trouble
with the clock till just a day or so while checking it with a program called
Atom Time.
Thanks for your input. Appreciate it.
