When I run TD on my AMD 2 ghz machine with 512 ram it crawls. Opening,
closing, dependency check is slow, slow, slow! The processor is pegged at
100% and a dependency check takes hours (no joke).

On my laptop, which has half the horsepower and a fraction of the ram runs a
thousand times faster.

Is there any known issues with AMD or is there something on my system I can
check? The only thing I have in my tray running besides the clock, sql
server, is McAffee.

Thanks,
Richard

Richard,

McAffee could be your problem. XPE Tools are not friendly with antivirus software on a dev machine. Trying stopping McAffee and see
if it makes a difference.

I am using AMD 1.9 Ghz on my XPE dev machine and this is my fastest machine for XPe building. don't have nay problems with it.
Try increasing RAM (I've got 1G) for SQL to cache XPe DB as much as possible.

Richard,

Strange !! Did you try re-installation of the Environment, but again
coz the CPU hikes to 100%,it could be worth to look out for the actual
process that pulls up the cpu resources.

I had the demo installed. When my licensed copy came in, I un-installed the
SQL Database and the Embedded Studio. Then re-installed from the licensed
CD. The Demo ran slow on this machine as well, but not nearly as slow as it
is now. I am running the Server on this machine as a single machine.

Turning off McAffee did not seem to make any difference.

Anymore Ideas?

Hi Richard,

If you have empty HDD.
Do clean XP install and XPe tools install. This way you will know if your
hardware is responsible or software itself.

Not likely, will use a different machine. There is a weeks worth of
software installs I would have to do.
I'll figure it out some how.

Richard,

You may try out a couple more tricks if you have time to do so:

1. - Uninstall XPe Tools
- Clean up "\Windows Embedded Data" and "\Program Files\Windows
Embedded" directories
- Remove all the registry entries related to the product:
[HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows Embedded], [HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows
Embedded]
- Install non-eval product once again and see if it helps.

2. If #1 does not help and you happened to have SQL Enterprise Manager
installed (EM 2000 or higher),
- Open EM and deattach from Mantis DB on your broken desktop, do the
same on your laptop machine.
- Clean up "\Windows Embedded Data\" directory on the desktop.
- Copy the content of "\Windows Embedded Data" directory (Mantis DB
file + log, Repositories) from your laptop to the desktop machine.
- Open EMs and attach to DBs again.
- See if the Tools on Desktop are still slow.

If neither #1 nor #2 helps, you can do a clean XP install.
