taking long to shut down

i just did a fresh reinstall, and when i click shut down,
or restart, it takes around 20 seconds to just start the
shutdown sequence. What are some things i can do to make
it work properly? i have a p4 3.2 ghz.. it should take
that long... it shut down perfectly fine before i
reformatted and reinstalled windows..

The fresh install leads me to believe you have services running (or
programs, if this install came from an OEM's restore disk) that were
previously turned off. Here's a link to an excellent shutdown
