takes ages to open word and close it...

Hello,
I use MS Office 2003 and it takes ages to open word documents and close
them. Excel is fine, but I have a big poblem with the time for opening and
closing files or just start and end the application. Has anybody an idea why
that is or how I can find out why that is?
As I have to work every day with many word files that is very annoying...
