Tahoe Contact now Payware - Free alternatives?

J

John Hood

Hey all - John Hood posting from Google at work.

Tahoe Contact Manager has gone payware (rats!). It was the closest
freeware thing to ACT or GoldMine - i.e. history notes for each
contact, reminder/tickler for follow-up by a certain date, etc.

Does anyone know of/use another freeware or open source product that
does this? Or must I consign this to the file "nice software that
didn't stay free."

I've Googled to no avail. These specific features are very hard to
find.

Palm Desktop is free. You don't need a Palm to download or use it. I don't
know Tahoe, but you'll find Palm relatively unsophisticated. However, if you
cleverly use your own codes, alternate users, etc combined with Palm search
feature you may be able to make it work for your purposes.

Palm Desktop is free.

Just an FYI, but last time I checked the license terms ... use
of Palm Desktop was restricted to current, licensed users of
Palm Pilot products. (Same with Handspring and the same desktop
software.)

Also, I've always found it to be an OK PIM, but not much of a
contact manager. That's the gap Agendus and other Palm contact
management products try and plug.

John,
could you please post the last free version to abf ?

this app looks very promising, closest to my way of keeping track.

How I wish I could. Deleted it some time ago... :-(

The "older" freeware version of Tahoe Contact Manager is--I
believe--still available from many sites on the web.

The file to look (Google) for is TCM_SETUP.EXE

It can be downloaded (for example) from Winsite at

http://dl.winsite.com/bin/downl?12500000036851

(This lists various download links.)

The main Winsite download is at:

http://dl.winsite.com/files/29/ar1/win95/business/tcm_setup.exe

I believe this is v. 2.0.20--described as the "lite freeware" version.
The executable file is dated September 10, 2002.

(I keep qualifying my statements with "I believe" because I downloaded
and installed the program some time ago, but then erased the setup
file. I just re-downloaded it, but did not install it again from the
setup file, so I can't be 100 percent sure that this is the exact same
version as what I installed over a year ago.)

Hope this helps.

C'ya.

P.S. The Winsite Info page describes this version as v. 2.0 and gives
an 11 Sept. 02 date for it. See:
