I have got a small table in the middle of my page.
When I preveiw it the table expands down the page destroying all my neatly
layed out work?
Any ideas how to stop this table and all its cells expanding

It works well if everything is in tables at 100%
Tables in tables work well with percent and not absolute.
Try by testing.

Code? all i want to know is how to stop a table stretching down the page?

Without knowing what your html looks like we don't know "what" is stretching it
- is there a table or cell height set?
- is the table nested in another table / cell w/ adjacent cells "stretching" it?

Hand wash in cold water, dry flat. Never put in dryer.
