Table does not display correctly on some PCs

I have a table on a slide that displays fine on my PC, but when a colleague
opens the presentation the text is enlarged and it doesn't fit in the table
properly. Portions of the words in the headings are showing above the table
line and some of the last row of text is outside of the table.

Are you using a different font in the table - perhaps one that your colleague
does not have on his/her computer?

Hello Sandy,
I'm using Verdana 20. It looks fine when I open the file. When he opens it,
everything in the table is enlarged and overalapping. He selects the text and
it is tagged as Verdana 20.

I was wondering if there is some setting somewhere that would cause that to
happen. All of the other slides are fine. It's just 2 slides that contain
text in tables that aren't showing correctly. Another colleague can open the
file and it's fine. That's why I was thinking it may be a setting somewhere.

Thanks,
Elaine

Hi Elaine - Just to be sure I've got this right.

You've used Insert>table to add a table added text and changed the font to
size 20?
When you colleague opens it, the font is still verdana 20 but it overflows
the table?

Verdana is oten a safe font, but I have to ask again about installation. On
your colleague's computer, even though it's not installed, the font WILL
appear tagged at Verdana when selected. The clue to its installation is if
the tag has a question mark or a TT next to it...do you know which it is?

Here are a couple of links that may help you:

Hi John,
One table I copied from another powerpoint presentation and one table I
copied from Word. I just checked the second table and it's using an Arial
font and we are having the same problem.

Yes, I changed the size to 20. He opens the file and checks the font and it
says it's the same type and size as when I open the file. But his version is
enlarged and overlapping and text is displaying outside of the table lines.

"copied from word..."

Did you use just "paste" (bad idea!) or "paste special "(as word object)??

Did that help?

Hi Sandy,
We are using Office PowerPoint 2003. The same thing is happening with a
table that uses Arial. Isn't Arial a default font?

I'll have him try the links below. All of the text slides use Verdana and
he doesn't have problems with those slides.

Hi John,
I think I just used paste . . .It was a while ago and my memory isn't that
good!

I, like Sandy, thought it was probably a missing font. But with these
additional bits of information, I'm thinking the font is probably fine. You
can double-check by going to Format|Replace Fonts on the problem machine. If
there are "?" symbols before any of the fonts, those are missing and need to
be installed on the problem systems.

Another thing we've been seeing lately is an issue with fonts on some slides
not keeping their settings after the files are saved. It's an issue with
multiple masters. You can try changing the order of your masters -- put the
one the problem slide's associated with so it's first in the list of
masters. It may resolve the issue with the table slides, but it could cause
problems with different slides.

What I usually recommend is to copy the text placeholder and paste it onto
the slide, which makes it not a placeholder, so it's no longer tied to the
slide master. I'm not sure if that will work with a table or not, though,
since they pick up their text settings from the text placeholder on the
master regardless. So I'd suggest copying the table and using Edit|Paste
Special and choosing EMF or WMF and then ungrouping the image. Drag the
table itself off the edge of the slide where it won't show, but where you'll
still have it if you need it.

That said, I'm not positive this issue with font size and multiple masters
is the problem you're experiencing.

Hello,
The slide that the table is on is a blank slide with a title bar. I'm not
sure what you mean when you say to copy the text placeholder and paste it
onto the slide.

I tried do a paste special with both the EMF and WMF file types. In order to
do an "ungroup" it's making me convert the table to Microsoft drawing object.

The table comes in very small and when I try to enlarge it, some of the
table lines get lost or pop in where they weren't before.

Why do you want me to drag the table off of the edge of the slide? Then it's
not on the slide anymore.
Thank you for your help.

When you ungroup a WMF/EMF, you'll have to say yes to "convert to drawing
object."

I was suggesting that you drag the original table off the edge of the slide
so you have it if you need it. Ungroup the copy that's visible on the slide.

I don't know if this will resolve the issue, but it's worth trying.
