Table background woes

D

Diana

I've drawn a rectangle with rounded corners in a graphics program and
exported to a jpg and gif (nothing special ... I just want that shape).

Please tell me there's a way to get it to fill an entire table without
tiling. Is there something I can do make it fit? How can I draw it to fit
.... I'll do whatever, but please help me stop it from tiling. Pleeze pleeze
pleeze. This has been so frustrating.

First, do it as a cell background, as table backgrounds are not supported in
some browsers.

Second, make the cell 1 to 2 pixels smaller that the image, however
different browsers will effect how the image is displayed, no matter what
you do.

You can also look into using CSS, however I can't help with that, as I
prefer not use CSS for layout control.

If you look at my splash page on my site below, you can see how I handle
corners.

Diane,

In General, it is not a good idea to post attachments in this newsgroup.

All images must be rectangular, so in order to have a transparent area to do
a rounded corner, you have to save it a GIF image.

You are missing the images for the 4 corners. With my page open in IE, do a
File Menu | Save As, Complete Html, then you will see the image in the
folder that is created along with the page.

Yes, I sure did.
I used cell background instead of table (I have often done this, but for
design reasons only - I did not know that table backgrounds weren't accepted
by all browsers - interesting!). I also made the cell a couple of pixels
smaller than the image.

When I copied your splash page code into my frontpage (2002) the corners
were not rounded.

What am I doing wrong??? What am I missing?

Diana,

First it is not possible to have a physical image file that is anything
other than square or rectangular. You have to create the rounded effect
within a image application.

So in order to create non-square/rectangular designs in a image as I have
done on my site, you have to save the image with inside of the curve area
being transparent in GIF file format. So if you look at my corner images on
a dark background, as long as you have imported the images into FP, you will
notice that the area on the outside of the curve is white and the inside of
the curve is transparent. The color on the outside of the curve is set to
match my page background, which in this case is white.
