System Restore lost all restore points on my xp pro system. I did not turn off System Restore. How can this happen? Is it recorded somewhere in Event Log? How can I find it. And finally, where are the restore files located. Cannot find them.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

SR points are in the System Volume Information folders (hidden, system
folders by default, you must enable the viewing of them from folder
options/view tab).

Running disk cleanup can remove all but the newest restore point. Check the
settings on the "more options" tab.

Thanks for the input, Rick. but I have these folders viewable(the hidden
ones) and there is no such "System Volume Information" folder listed.

Thanks to Rick and Bill, I have located the restore point files. But can
anyone help with the other part of my question::System Restore lost all
restore points on my xp pro system. I did not turn off System Restore. How
can this happen? Is it recorded somewhere in Event Log?

You also have to uncheck the option "Hide protected operating system
files..."

Hi William,

As I mentioned previously, it can happen when your run the disk cleanup. It
will also happen when you install SP1 (removes all but the newly created
restore point). Another way it can happen are if you reduce the amount of
space allotted to SR.

Regardless, however they were lost, once lost they are not recoverable.

You also need to uncheck the 'Hide Protected mode System files', just
below
