I cannot map to a Network Drive or share. I cannot get my
browser (IE 6.0 SP1) to complete the scan for Windows
Update recommendations (locks at various spots within the
check). I cannot get beyond 30% of ANY and ALL downloads
I attempt of ANY kind, and I am lucky to get up to 30% of
a download before it locks up my IE.
Here is the kicker: If I remove Symantec SystemWorks 2003
COMPLETELY, and I mean completely, all is fine.
I have tried everything to no avail and am almost ready
for a clean install of XP Pro.
Some of the things I recently tried:
I have ran Anti-virus full scans in safe-mode with the
latest virus dat files. I have ran Spybot s&D and ad-
aware 6.0 with all updated definitions. I have ran a re-
install of Windows XP without formatting (repair). I have
ran sfc /scannow. I have removed IE 6.0 and re-installed
from Microsoft processes. I have installed ALL of the
Critical fixes and patches. Nothing seems to work.
EXCEPT for this strange bandaid. If I remove Symantec
SystemWorks 2003 COMPLETELY, all is fine. But!, if I
only remove everything in Systemworks 2003 except the
Antivirus portion, I still have the problem described
above. I MUST have NAV 2003 on my system to protect me
from Viruses.
P.S. System Restore is NOT a solution to my issue as
Disabling the Windows XP Restore option was the
suggestion or process recommended by Symantec to perform
a solid scan and removal of any reminants of a possible
previous virus. I must be able to at least install the
NAV portion of Systemworks 2003 that I purchased, yet
this seems to be the part of Systemworks that is holding
up a STOP sign in front of my Downloads, browsing and
updates...
HELP!!!!!....
Desperate. Thanks,
Steve
