System_SAV message saying low disk space

i recently upgrade from 98 to XP Home Edition Upgrade and ever since i did this there has been a message that pops up from the toolbar on the bottom right corner that says "System_Sav (D:) low disk space" When analyzing the amount of disk space left it shows that it is practically completely full. I've tried deleting items that I thought were taking up quite a bit of space, but nothing freed up the space at all. Does anyone know how to begin to help me with this? thanks
