I have an HP 830n, P4-540, 1G RAM. running XP home. After installing Norton
internet security 2005 and Password manager 2004, my system will not stay in
standby mode for longer than 30 seconds. I"ve disabled all scheduled tasks
and nothing is running in the windiws task manager. Any suggestions
appreciated

Check the power management settings for your mouse & modem in device manager
(start > run > devmgmt.msc ) (Double-click the device and look at the
"Power Management" tab)
A phone call or a tiny movement of the mouse could bring it out of standby,

Add the keyboard to that list of what to check (-:

It ended up being my ethernet card. Thanks for pointing me in the right
direction.
