I turned on my XP Pro this morning and got a message
"we apologize for the inconvience but windows did not start successfully. A
recent HD/SW change might have caused this.

If your computer stopped responding.......
..(snipped).
safe mode
safe mode with networking
safe mode with command prompt

Last known good conf

start windows normally."

None worked, I just go back to the same screen like a loop.. I powered down
the system and that didnt help..
System was turned off normally last night, nortons was up and running so I
dont think it's a virus.

Please help.
Thanks

Will.. thanks for the quick reply. I put the cd in the drive and started up
the pc. I got the same message. It didnt boot from the drive. I have a boot
disk that will get me to the c drive. Any idea how I can start xp from the c
dirve?
Thanks again

Hi

Your best way round this problem is a 'Repair Install' - if you say that no
hardware/software updates have been implemented. Put the XP CD into your CD
drive and then reboot your PC. At the first screen, press Enter, then
accept the License. After that select the windows installation that you
want to repair and press 'R'. Your system should be restored without
loosing any data files, although you will have to download/install any
Windows Updates that you had installed - including SP1

Any problems - please post back.

Will
