I have been trying to use ad-aware to scan my computer for spyware and it
finds a lot and always gets hung up on C:\system volume
information\{f3450f7f-7322-41b3-b409-b4d4dfe5de1b}\rp146 is there a way to
access that folder and delete that file? I have restore points that I do not
want to lose, so it would be nice if I could get rid of just this one,
assuming that the rp actually refers to restore point.

Steven;
The Restore Points you don't want to lose will be gone soon enough
anyways.
There is no practical way to permanently keep a Restore Point as
System Restore will eventually delete them.

If everything is fine, create a new Restore Point then delete the rest
using the "More Options" tab in Disk Clean-Up.

Deleting the Restore data another way risks corrupting all System
Restore data.

See this for more about System Restore:

Hi Steven,

To show System Volume Information

Go to: Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/View/Show Hidden File and
Uncheck Hide Protected Operating System Files.

Then go to: C:\System Volume Information

But the way to fix your problem is to create a restore point and then use
the Disk Cleanup to delete all but the last restore point. The virus will be
gone, if your virus checker already deleted it from your system.

Right click your Root drive/Properties/Disk Cleanup ... let it run. Then
click on More Options/System Restore/Clean up.

I did what you said and then clicked on the folder and it says access
denied. I checked properties but cannot find anything that would allow
access. I am using xp sp1 Home edition.

By default, the SVI folder only has permissions set for the System. As an
Administrator, you can reassign permissions for any file/folder on the
system, if you really need to see what's in there.

I would suggest you follow the other advice you got and make a new restore
point then clear all others through Disk Cleanup.

That is a restore point. You will only be in danger if you restore to
that point. I would not, either, try a restore to earlier. Restore
points form a chain back from the present - you cannot delete a single
one without breaking the chain.

What you could do is assess the space taken by later points (RPnnn
folders with higher numbers) and in System - System Restore, take
Settings and reduce the space allowed so this one will no longer fit.
OK out and it (and earlier ones) will be removed.
